Back to work!

We spent the Memorial Day weekend in the Southland at a Bantam A hockey tournament. The boys did OK: coming in 3rd out of 8. They should have done better as they outplayed two of the teams they lost to but simply could not get a puck into the net.To my untrained eye it looked like the kids would get the puck in front of the net then would skate in circles to get in the optimum position for shooting. This lead to turn overs when they should have been shooting the crap out of it.

Anyway. That is all behind us and its back to our regularly scheduled program. Had two dreams last night; one about a long cotton trench coat with a fur collar that was on sale ("final markdown!") but I resisted buying. In the second dream, I discovered a shirt in my closet that I was not aware that I owned. It was short and sheer with short sleeves and while I was dubious about it I was overjoyed to find something new to wear.

I am paying the price for this New Year's Resolution! I am suffering, here!

Meanwhile it is supposed to be cool and drizzly today so I trotted out my Charles David boots. There's that red shirt again, and the Eileen Fisher midi skirt.

Bay to Breakers 2013

Capezio tutu, Juror2 t-shirt, purple Asics shorts were a gift, unnamed online source for tiara and tights. Ryan's Sport Shop for shoes. ZombieRunner socks and visor. I'm rocking the dystopian princess look for the Bay to Breaker run this year! Why? Because it's San Francisco and I want to be a queen when I grow up.
I'm wearing a LOT more than my companion. Enough said about that. Set a personal record for the 12K race. Did OK for the floppy old bag division. Can't wait until next year!

Getting my money's worth

I love my red corderoy pants. I paid $40 for them at Therapy, a little shop in downtown Mountain View that serves primarily to clothe the local cadre of shrieking overweight hipster girls. However, as these excellent pants show, one must not dismiss such places out of hand. My mom once told me that you could be well dressed no matter where you shopped as long as you had style and taste. I think she was talking about JC Penney, back in the 1970s. I think she is probably right. If your own personal style is adhered to, you can find things reasonable to wear anywhere. So yeah, don't eschew the hipster places, and Goodwill, because sometimes you will find an excellent gem.

The shirt is an ancient Classiques silk wrap style shirt that I also love and have gotten my money's worth out of.

Thought I'd get this combination out of the way

In the end I wore a black cardigan over the shirt to tone things down a bit

Mother's Day

What to wear to brunch with the family? I tried on many dresses this morning. Black lace? Uh, no. Favorite Leifsdottir is gorgeous but I have always had varicose veins and the effect of pretty dress and veins was off putting. Vintage red lace? Loved that because I was channeling Donna Reed and I thought how appropriate for Mothers Day! But then I remembered that my family members might not be so amused and since this is a family event I should try to fit in.  So I ended up with this:

A couple of things to point out: that bright colored skirt is not in the database and neither is that white t shirt. This gives you an idea of just how much crap I have in my closet. I love those shoes. Like my new haircut? And you can't see it but I'm wearing a pretty gold and garnet necklace that my spousie gave me.
Finally, note that I always photograph my iPhone 5 in these awful selfies and today I debut my flashy new cellphone cover. It is a Mother's Day gift from my sweet little boy!

OK back to our regularly scheduled program.

Existential crisis

At Marshall's. they must have gotten in a couple of shipments because my local Marshall's was chock full of Joie, James Perse, and Tahari. I also found one Equipment shirt on the clearance rack. I did not buy one single thing. I hope you can appreciate how hard this was. Sniff. Sob.

April done

Another month down. Struggling against the urge to buy new things. I justify them in my mind: oh it's for weekend wear. Sweaters are excluded. I NEED those shoes. NO.

I attended a conference and had a vacation in April so there were fewer days to track. No I'm not cheating.

On to May! Can you wear corderoy pants in May? I got two pair. I think that might be a traditional fashion no-no. Hmm. Buy new pants!! NO.

I think my clothes are fine, but the photos are terrible

I love this Milly shirt. It is sleeveless and has a long tie at the neck that I think is supposed to be worn in a bow. I like it long and flopping all over. Interestingly, I have two of this same Milly shirt in two different prints. Bought a couple of years apart. Both on Sale. Becaue I have so much stuff in my closet I didn't realiz they were the very same style. I do love them both, though.

Read this little article the other day about cleaning out your closet. The writer was recommending having only 10 items of clothing in your closet, with other stuff and things for other seasons put away. I admire this idea, but in reality, 10? Three pairs of pants, a skirt, a dress, two shirts, a t shirt, a sweater and a blazer. 1. I would die of boredom. 2. the shirts would be ruined by coffee and grease stains. 3. DaisyJ would blog about how boring my clothes have suddenly become. And finally, I don't know about you folks but of the course of a month I can not fit into the same pair of pants. There's two weeks there when I need a size up. Here's the link if you are interested:
